Thigmomorphogenic responses of epiphytic bromeliads to mechanically induced stress

چکیده
Abstract Vascular epiphytes represent almost 10% of all terrestrial plant diversity. Despite the extensive research on functional ecology and challenges epiphytic growth, there is still very little known how exposure to mechanically induced stress affects growth development epiphytes. Therefore, this study investigated effect such mechanical biomass allocation bromeliads. Juvenile plants two species were subjected types in greenhouse—permanent displacement temporary, recurring flexing. ANOVAs used test possible treatment effects root–shoot ratio, root diameter, area distribution ratio. Contrary previous studies herbaceous plants, these bromeliads showed no change shoot properties either species. The ratio increased disturbed Guzmania lingulata but not Vriesea sp. Treatment inconsistent: a was significant only first 2 months experiment G. , whilst none treatments negatively affected All some degree curvature their stems leaves against obtain an upright position. This probably related maintenance tank. provides quantitative qualitative data understand thigmomorphogenic responses stress. Future could include field surveys quantify on-site stresses corresponding morphological changes vascular

Responses of Almond Genotypes to Osmotic Stress Induced In Vitro
Drought is one of the major limitations to crop production worldwide. This study was conducted to evaluate the response of five almond genotypes and peach×almond hybrid GF to drought stress in vitro, and screening drought tolerance. Explants subjected to polyethylene glycol osmotic stress ( , , and . % WV) on the MS medium. Increasing PEG level in the medium significantly reduced fresh weight a...
متن کاملResponses of epiphytic aquatic macroinvertebrates to hypoxia
Different species of aquatic macrophytes have strongly contrasting effects on the oxygen dynamics of the waters they inhabit. We conducted laboratory experiments to test the hypothesis that macroinvertebrates inhabiting stands of the floating-leaved water-chestnut (Trapa natans), which causes severe hypoxia, are more resistant to low oxygen concentrations (0.5–1 mg L−1) than those that inhabit ...
متن کامل'And then there were three': highly efficient uptake of potassium by foliar trichomes of epiphytic bromeliads.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Vascular epiphytes have to acquire nutrients from atmospheric wash out, stem-flow, canopy soils and trapped litter. Physiological studies on the adaptations to nutrient acquisition and plant utilization of nutrients have focused on phosphorus and nitrogen; potassium, as a third highly abundant nutrient element, has received minor attention. In the present study, potassium up...
متن کاملDiversity and distribution of epiphytic bromeliads in a Brazilian subtropical mangrove.
It is not unusual to find epiphytic bromeliads in mangroves, but most studies on mangrove vegetation do not record their presence. This study aimed to evaluate the diversity and distribution of epiphytic bromeliads in a subtropical mangrove. The richness, abundance and life form (atmospheric and tank) of bromeliads were recorded and compared among host tree species and waterline proximity. The ...

To study the response of Iranian melon cultivars to salinity stress a factorial experiment based on RCBD with 3 replications was conducted. Four salinity treatments (0, 6.6, 8 and 12 dS/m NaCl( and 16 muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.) cultivars namely ‘Dargazi’, ‘Khatooni’, Abbas shori’, ‘Chah paliz’, ‘Zard Ivanaki’, ‘Gorgab’, ‘Gongi’, Saderati’, ‘Dastgerd’, ‘Sabz Isfahan’, ‘Jalali’, Ghasri Mashha...
